Laura Amy
Fitness Model, Social Media Celebrity
Sydney-based Laura Amy is an inspiration for an army of people online. She’s a fitness influencer and trainer famous for her amazing figure and motivational posts.
However, Laura’s journey to achieving the success she has today was a difficult one. In 2015, when she was 22, Laura developed anorexia. This eating disorder made Laura obsess over everything she ate. She also began to spend hours on the treadmill every day, afraid of gaining an extra pound. At her lowest point, Laura weighed 39 kilograms.
In time, Laura realized her problem became too serious to ignore. She went on to find training and nutrition programs that would help her gain her weight back. Replacing the treadmill with the weight room, along with adding more calories to her diet, Laura finally began to notice positive changes in her body.
After three years of relapses, small successes, and numerous challenges, Laura finally beat her disorder. Through weight training and a healthy diet, she was able to gain 11 kilograms of healthy weight. Along the process, she began to post pictures of her transformation online – leading her to become a fitness icon in Australia.
“There is no magic supplement or pill, sure I use supplements to aid in my training but it simply comes down to hard work and dedication! “

Training
Replacing Cardio With Weights
When Laura battled anorexia back in 2015, all she would do was run on the treadmill, sometimes for hours at the time.
Coupled with her extremely low-calorie diet, this made Laura drop down to an extremely low 39 kilograms. Once she realized she’d taken things too far, Laura decided to try weight training instead of cardio.
To her positive surprise, Laura started gaining her weight back from doing heavy compound movements. These exercises, paired with a healthy diet, helped her get her body to where she wanted it to be.

“Be thankful for what you are now, and keep fighting for what you want to be tomorrow.”
Nutrition
Laura’s diet has completely changed since 2015 when she battled anorexia. Back then, she consumed very few calories, which made her look undernourished and extremely unhealthy.
She now eats many more calories without being afraid of gaining an extra pound. As Laura says, “I can’t stress enough how gaining weight doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad or scary thing! I know my journey is the reverse for a lot of people as I have always been naturally small and is harder for me to gain weight and size.” – Laura Amy
Some of the foods Laura now consumes on a daily basis include;
- Avocados
- Lentils
- Dark Leafy Greens
- Pineapple
- Farm-raised meats
- Eggs
- Brown Rice
- Quinoa
Supplements That Laura Amy Takes
Since she does a lot of resistance training, these are Laura’s top supplement picks;
- Fat burner – Laura sometimes uses this before her early morning cardio when she lacks energy.
- Pre-Workout – She’ll take this before every training session
- BCAA’s – BCAA’s are something Laura likes to take during her workouts to fuel her muscles as she trains.
- Glutamine – Laura takes Glutamine three times per day; in the morning, before a workout, and after a workout.
- Whey Protein – Just like Glutamine, Laura takes whey protein three times per day. She’ll take it once for breakfast, once in between meals, and once after a workout.
“The supplements you should/can be using and how much also depends a lot on your training style and goals.”
Idols and Influences
Laura’s biggest influence was her very own desire to change her life for the better. Once she realized she went too far with her eating disorder, Laura decided to do whatever it took to improve her situation.
Fighting her small, but constant battles every single day, Laura finally overcame the illness after three years of struggle – all thanks to her perseverance and a strong desire to lead a normal life again.
“It’s not about comparing our physiques or how heavy we lift to others, it’s staying focused on your own journey and remembering where you started and how far you have already come both physically and mentally.”
