Growing up in Virginia, Brandon was extremely active and participated in a number of sports. His main passion was basketball and he excelled in the sport at school – making it on to his high school basketball team with ease.
Through playing basketball, Brandon experienced his first gym sessions. He also began to become involved in powerlifting meets; increasing his strength and size in the process, and learning new techniques.
Through time and dedication in the weight room and on the court, Brandon managed to land a place at a Virginia college to play semi-professionally. Despite being one of the largest and strongest members of the team in his first year, an early injury halted his career.
It was at this time that he finally discovered how beneficial weight lifting could be in an individuals life. Power lifting instilled confidence in his day-to-day life, while ensuring that he maintained an excellent diet.
He also developed a deep interest in the nutritional element of the bodybuilding lifestyle; reading numerous books on this topic to develop his knowledge-base
As Brandon improved his own physique and workout routine, he decided that he would spend time helping others. He took an accredited personal training course and began to train clients at a local gym.
He also set up a (now popular) YouTube account, where he’s been able to spread his knowledge to willing listeners. Through these videos, he’s reached millions of viewers and helped them reach their goal of losing weight and building muscle.
He is very popular for his nutrition related content. He produces regular videos discussing the best kind of meals for bodybuilding – such as a video named ‘Easy high protein bodybuilding breakfast’.
Brandon trains fasted for the sake of convenience. He says that he can work just as hard without eating, so it allows him to free up time in the day to work on his YouTube channel.
Additionally, Brandon trains at 5am, so having a large meal beforehand is counterproductive to him getting to the gym early. He will usually eat a large meal after his workout, which is the normal breakfast time anyway.
Brandon’s training when he isn’t preparing for a power lifting competition, follows an Upper power- Lower Power-Upper Hypertrophy- Lower Hypertrophy split. He does this to maximize strength and size gains as much as possible.
He completes a number of traditional exercises such as the bench press, but also includes such movements as the cable tricep extension.
